Ralf Rangnick hints at Manchester United squad rotation ahead of Brighton fixture

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has refused to rule out the prospect of shuffling his Manchester United squad ahead of this evening's clash with Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.

The visit of the Seagulls, who have never won a league game in Manchester, will represent United's first of three matches in the space of just nine days, with trips to Leeds United and Atletico Madrid to follow tonight's meeting with Graham Potter's side.

Furthermore, tonight's Premier League showdown will represent United's fourth outing of February in less than two weeks, highlighting the demand and strains that have already been put on the squad this month.

With the fixtures continuing to come thick and fast, and the importance of them rising, Rangnick has refused to rule out the prospect of rotating his pack in a bid to keep things as fresh as possible.

"Yes, it's possible that we need to rotate, maybe even for tomorrow's game," Rangnick told United's club website on Monday.

"In some positions, we could do with some fresh legs, some fresh energy. We have the next game coming up at Leeds, another intense away game, and then in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid and then Watford.

"We have quite a few games coming up, every three or four days, and that's why it’s good for me as manager that I have enough players, two players for each position, in order to give some players a rest and others a chance to perform."

Meanwhile, United will welcome Brazilian international Fred back into the squad this evening after missing the last two matches after a bout of Covid-19.

"Fred will be back in the squad, which is good for us,” added Rangnick. "We need his energy and also his physicality in midfield."
