Ralf Rangnick hails Man United’s ‘maturity’ as he dismisses talk of dressing room issues

Ralf Rangnick was delighted with the spirit his Man United side displayed to see off a Leeds comeback and win 4-2 at Elland Road.

Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes put the visitors two goals ahead at the break, but another slow start to a second half from United saw Leeds scored two goals in a minute and turn the match around.

Fred and Anthony Elanga came off the bench to secure victory for Rangnick’s side and move them four points clear in the battle for Champions League football, though Arsenal and Tottenham both have three games in hand.

It comes after a week where numerous reports suggested there was a dressing room divide at the club, with talk of a potential issue between Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo shut down by the centre-back, and the interim boss was thrilled with how the players put that disruption behind them.

“We knew that it was an important win today,” Rangnick said.

“It was similar to the one against West Ham. That was similarly emotional at the end with the last-second goal.

“But today it was more important, not only that we won the game but the way that we reacted after conceding the equaliser.

“That was the best possible answer the team could give. It was perfect with regard to maturity, unity and the best reply that they could give to some articles last week that there was some disruption in the locker room.

“I think a game like this one today you can only win as a team and with the mentality of a team and this was, apart from the three points, the most important thing.”
