Ralf Rangnick explains why Man Utd transfer policy is failing while Liverpool's thrives

Ralf Rangnick has told Manchester United that they can learn from Liverpool in the transfer market as their recruitment continues to come in for questioning.

The German will step aside from his interim role in the summer with Erik ten Hag set to replace him. A mass overhaul has been discussed at Old Trafford with the current squad compromising signings that have come from several different tenures. A lack of a clear transfer policy has held back the Red Devils.

They are in the midst of a five year trophy drought whilst Liverpool continue to impress and can claim the quadruple this term. Jurgen Klopp has benefitted from a clear recruitment policy but Rangnick insists a vision can help speed up the process - something United have struggled to implement as they go from manager to manager.

“We spoke about Liverpool and how long it took them. It will take two or three windows if you know what you are looking for,” said the German. "If you don’t know what you are looking for it is a needle in a haystack. If you know what kind of football you want to play and what kind of profiles for each individual position, then it is about finding them and convincing them to come. For Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool it took two transfer windows.

"But even in the other transfer windows that came later on there has been a lot of very, very good transfers and signings. This is what it is all about. It is not complicated. It is not rocket science. But in order to have the best possible wind, you need to know what your destination haven is. If you don’t know that, it is always difficult.”

Klopp's playing squad perfectly reflect him on the pitch. The likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Georiginio Wijnaldum helped enact his high-energy style and the club have continued to add and replace players impressively with Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz both arriving.

Who should Man Utd look to sign in the summer? Let us know in the comments

United's inconsistent season still has them in contention for the top four but they face Liverpool on Tuesday night at Anfield. The Red Devils are aiming to avenge the 5-0 mauling they suffered earlier this term but the interim boss is adamant they can pull off the upset.

“We need to be aggressive, although there might be a lot of defensive work tomorrow, we still need to be pro-active,” he added. "Just sitting back and keeping our fingers crossed that we don’t concede any goals is not enough against a team like Liverpool.

“We will travel there and our clear goal is to win the game. We have to play at our very very best with and without the ball but I believe we can do that. After the results at the weekend we are still in the race for fourth but to stay in it we have to win almost every game. We might be the underdogs for most people but if we raise our level we have a chance.”
