Ralf Rangnick 'cancels' Man Utd training session after dressing room events unfold

Ralf Rangnick reportedly cancelled a recovery session for the Manchester United players in the wake of their draw with Chelsea as dressing room issues persist.

The Red Devils were second best for long spells against Thomas Tuchel's men at Old Trafford but salvaged a 1-1 draw thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo who got the hosts on level terms following Marcos Alonso's opener. Rangnick admitted United's top-four hopes are all but gone with nothing to play for for the rest of the season, with Erik ten Hag now named as the next manager to take over.

United's problems in their dressing room have been well-documented over the years and nothing has changed since Ragnick's arrival. There are also several players that want out in the summer which has led to a disbalance on and off the pitch.

And it seems the culture in the changing room is deteriorating the longer the season goes on. It's claimed that after the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal, Rangnick hardly said anything to his players in the dressing room, according to The Athletic. The squad were also supposed to have a recovery session on Friday, after the game against Chelsea, but Rangnick cancelled it and gave them a day off.

Rangnick will take a two-year consultancy role in the summer when Ten Hag arrives but will also coach the Austria national team - which he says won't interfere with his position upstairs at United. The 63-year-old has signed a two-year contract with Austria, which will be extended by a further two years should they qualify for Euro 2024 in Germany.

Rangnick confirmed the news in a statement, saying: "I will take over as national team manager of Austria at the end of the season but will continue my consultancy with Manchester United. I’m really looking forward to playing my part in helping United become a real force.

'It is an honour for me to take on the role of [Austria] manager,” he added. “The prospect of contesting the European Championships in Germany with a young team hungry for success fills me with great anticipation.”

Gerhard Milletich, President of the Austrian Football Association, added: “We are very pleased that in Ralf Rangnick we have been able to recruit an outstanding expert in international football as team manager. We are all convinced that he is the ideal man and that his vision will advance the national team and the OFB.”

Peter Schöttel sporting director of Austrian FA said: "After a very well-founded and intensive process, we were able to win Ralf Rangnick, an absolute top man with great international reputation as team boss. Makes me very proud and really looking forward to working together."
