Ralf Rangnick calls Anthony Elanga an example to follow in warning to Man United squad

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick believes that Anthony Elanga is an example others should follow.

The 19-year-old Swede on Tuesday played the role of super sub for the second time in four days as his late strike secured a valuable first-leg draw for United against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last-16 stage.

Joao Felix had given the hosts the early advantage and the Red Devils were largely second best during the fixture, but Elanga made the most of a late cameo to leave the tie finely poised.

Speaking to BT Sport post-match, Rangnick was keen to praise the youngster.

"He is playing as if a dream comes true," the German declared. "He is just a joy and it's fun to watch him play.

"I wish a few other players would take him as an example, or almost as a role model I would say, not because he is doing everything right, but because he's just enjoying himself on the pitch and that's what it's all about.

"Football is an important sport and even more so for our supporters or for the media, but it's still a ball game and you have to enjoy yourself on the pitch.

"This is what I wish us to do when we play them again in a few weeks."

Rangnick has previously made it known that Elanga was likely to go out on loan before his arrival as interim boss.

After the first training session the two had together, Rangnick made it clear to the Swede that he would be staying at Old Trafford.

Manchester United return to action on Saturday when they host Watford in the Premier League.
