Ralf Rangnick advises Manchester United to sign two strikers

Ralf Rangnick has recommended Manchester United sign two strikers in the summer to alleviate the burden on Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo, 37, struck his 23rd club goal of the season - the same amount he tallied for United in 2006-07 when he turned 23 - and United's next highest goalscorer is Bruno Fernandes on nine.

Edinson Cavani is certain to leave United when his contract expires in June and fellow attack-minded players Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata are also set to depart.

Ronaldo has scored eight of United's last nine goals and Rangnick reiterated United have had a shortage of forwards since the win over West Ham in their last fixture prior to the January internationals.

Mason Greenwood lined up in that 1-0 win while Cavani and Anthony Martial were introduced off the bench. Greenwood has not played since, Martial joined Sevilla on loan and the ageing Cavani has started once in the last three months.

"We also go through the list of names that are missing since the West Ham game," Rangnick said. "We had all the offensive players on the pitch. The only offensive player we still had available on the bench was Juan Mata, he came on for the last 20 minutes.

"We have to be still fair with the players. We had quite a few other players also scoring goals, I remember my first 10 games and we had 10 different goalscorers. It is how many opportunities can we create and how many players do we have available.

"Compare our bench today with the bench that Chelsea had and the first XI they had. This is not an excuse, just an explanation.

"Right now, we very much rely on Cristiano."
