Rajya Sabha live updates | House adjourned sine die

The Rajya Sabha passed the Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill, 2022, after discussion during the second half of the day’s session.

The House also passed the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2022 on Wednesday that seeks to include Tripura’s Darlong community in the list of Scheduled Tribes.

House adjourned sine die within 18 minutes of commencement

The Upper House was adjourned sine die fifteen minutes within commencement of proceedings. It parted on a bitter note, with the opposition parties led by Shiv Sena obstructed the Zero Hour demanding a debate on the recent FIR filed in Maharashtra against former Parliamentarian Kirit Somaiya in connection to a Rs 2 crore worth scam.

Chairman Venkaiah Naidu was not allowed to make the concluding remarks. The opposition stormed into the well of the house. Following a war of words between Mr Naidu and Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut the house was adjourned sine die

Union Home Minister Amit Shah replied to the discussion on The Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill, 2022. Responding to concerns about human rights violations raised by the opposition MPs, Mr. Shah said that the victims of a crime also have human rights and urges the House to consider it.

After more than three hours of debate, Rajya Sabha passed The Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill, 2022, by a voice vote.
