Rajya Sabha updates March 23, 2022 | House adjourned

The Rajya Sabha passed the Jammu and Kashmir Appropriation Bill, 2022, which was tabled by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday.

The house was adjourned a few minutes after convening on Wednesday morning following protests by Opposition members over hike in fuel prices.

On Tuesday, the first half of the proceedings witnessed repeated adjournments due to protests by Opposition members against the fuel price hike. However, the budget of Jammu and Kashmir was discussed during the second half.

Rajya Sabha adjourned

The House will resume proceedings at 11.00 a.m. on Thursday.

Government plans to bring comprehensive changes to criminal laws in the country

Rajya Sabha has been informed that the government has initiated the process of amendment to laws such as Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act. - PTI

The Bills have been passed through voice votes.

Nirmala Sitharam replies to concerns raised by MPs during discussion on Jammu and Kashmir Bills

According to the Finance Minister, the condition of Dal Lake has improved, as against the concerns raised by parliamentarians. Ms. Sitharaman has also said that the apple trade in the Union Territory is flourishing, and so are other local industries like pashmina.

Women participation in workforce ‘very likely’ affected during Covid, govt tells Rajya Sabha

Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar says that the participation of women in workforce says “it is very likely that the women participation in the workforce was impacted” during the Covid pandemic. However, the minister clarifies that there was no major disruption in women participation in workforce during the period leading upto Covid.

“In the information technology and the technology space, women participation has exceeded 44 to 45 percent,” he says. In the case of rural women workforce, the minister says the Jan Shikshan Sansthan is primarily aimed at skilling women in rural areas.

Mr. Chandrasekhar was replying during the Question Hour to V. Vijaysai Reddy from Andhra Pradesh who asked about the government’s measures to increase skill development programmes for women from rural areas.

Govt says no vacant seats in government engineering colleges

No seats remaining vacant in government engineering colleges, Subhas Sarkar, Minister of State for Education, says in Rajya Sabha.

The remarks from the minister came in response to a question by BJP member from Karnataka K.C. Ramamurthy about the number of seats vacant in engineering colleges, particularly about government engineering colleges.

Rajya Sabha adjourned for an hour on fuel price rise issue

The House was adjourned for an hour, 11 minutes after the proceedings began at 11 a.m. as the Opposition members continued to protest with placards.

This is the second consecutive day when the House is witnessing adjournment over the fuel price rise issue.

House adjourns till 12 p.m. amid Opposition protest

Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu adjourns house till 12 p.m. amid sloganeering by Opposition parties demanding discussion over increase in price of fuels.

“I have received notice under Rule 267 by Ramgopal Yadav, Mallikarjun Kharge, Shaktisinh Gohil, Nazir Hussain on increase in price of petroleum, edible oil etc. I have considered it and it cannot be discussed under 267 notice. It is a general issue, can be discussed under Demand of Grants,” Mr. Naidu said.

Opposition members protest the decision and carry placards and continue with sloganeering.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled two Jammu and Kashmir Appropriation bills for consideration and return and members discussed the budget of Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The house also witnessed few adjournments during the first half of the session due to protests by opposition members against fuel price hike.
