The case of a man accused of murdering Queensland woman Toyah Cordingley near a beach north of Cairns more than four years ago has faced court for a brief mention of his charge.
Rajwinder Singh, 38, was charged last month with the allged murder of 24-year-old Toyah Cordingley.
Mr Singh's appearance was excused at this morning's committal mention hearing in Cairns Magistrates Court.
He was represented in court today by lawyer Derek Perkins.
Crown prosecutor Nathan Crane updated the court on the progress of the case.
"The parties have exchanged for committal all documents in respect of notice of intention to proceed by way of registry committal to the party Singh," he said.
"I mentioned 28 days for that to occur."
Mr Perkins agreed.
"That's fine to proceed, your honour," Mr Perkins said.
A registry committal bypasses the need for a magistrates court committal hearing, according to Queensland Courts.
Magistrate James Morton set a date of June 9 for the next mention of Mr Singh's case.
Outside court, neither Mr Perkins nor Mr Crane would comment to the media.
Mr Singh has not entered a plea but has always maintained his innocence.
Ms Cordingley's body was found on Wangetti Beach, 33km northwest of Cairns, on October 21, 2018.
