Rajasthan: BJP stages protest over REET exam in Jaipur

JAIPUR: Over 50,000 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers — who gathered from across the state — staged a protest in Rajasthan capital Jaipur demanding an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers (REET) paper leak on Tuesday.

Several party MLAs and MPs were present in the protest march scheduled from BJP headquarters in C-Scheme to the state assembly.

However, police present on the ground prevented the protesters from reaching the state assembly.

While addressing the protestors, BJP state president Satish Poonia said the ruling Congress party is trying to cover up the matter to shield the real culprits which includes people holding constitutional positions.

“As a responsible opposition, we are demanding an inquiry from the central agency which can only investigate the matter in full fairness. It is a matter related to the future of lakhs of students. The investigating agency, Special Operations Group (SOG), cannot investigate due to the involvement of high-profile people,” said Poonia.

BJP state in charge Arun Singh was also present in the protest along with the leader of opposition Gulabchand Kataria.

The protest has crippled the traffic at several places like Sodala, Ajmer Road, Ambedkar Circle, 22 Godown Circle, C-Scheme and Statue Circle in the city.

The REET paper was conducted for the recruitment of teachers on September 26, 2021.

The Gehlot government cancelled the exam on February 9 this year following the arrest of those involved in the paper leak by the SOG.
