Rain, snow over J&K during Mar 27–28: MeT

Srinagar: Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Sunday predicted light rain and snow at many places during March 27 and 28 over Jammu and Kashmir.

The MeT office said, “Overall, there is no significant weather activity till March 27 evening.”

The weather will generally remain cloudy with light rain or snow (higher reaches) at many places; it said and added on March 29, the weather will remain partly cloudy with light rain or snow at isolated places.

There is a possibility of intermittent light rain and snow at a few places during March 30-31, it said.

The weather is likely to remain dry today, with a possibility of very light rain in a few places over Jammu and Kashmir.

An independent weather forecaster, Kashmir Weather, said, “There is a possibility of a thundershower in some parts of Kashmir towards late afternoon or evening today, with the maximum chances at parts of south Kashmir.”

He said, “Hailstorms and gusty winds can also occur, while in the higher reaches, a spell of rain can't be ruled out during the afternoon hours.”

Meanwhile, the night temperatures improved in all weather stations across the Kashmir Valley, recording 3 to 5°C above normal. The day temperature was also recorded at 3–4 °C above normal, while Srinagar recorded at 19.5°C against 15.3 °C the previous day.

The minimum temperature in the summer capital of Srinagar was recorded during the intervening nights of Saturday and Sunday at 10.2°C, and it was 5.2°C above the normal of 5.0°C, the MeT office said.

Qazigund had a low of 6.8°C, while the picnic spot of Kokernag in south Kashmir had a low of 7.7°C recorded on Sunday.

Gulmarg in north Kashmir's Baramulla district recorded 1.4°C against -2.5°C the previous night, and it was still 3.0°C above normal for the famous ski resort.

Pahalgam recorded 3.6°C against -1.1°C the previous night, and it was 3.6°C above normal for the tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Kupwara settled at 8.1°C against the 4.3°C recorded the previous night. It was 4.9°C above normal for the frontier Kashmir of north Kashmir on Sunday, the MeT office said.
