Rain Delays Men's Street Skateboarding Event At Olympics In Paris

Paris 2024 Olympics Press Conference

Less than 24 hours after the opening ceremony in Paris, rain has become a common theme at the Olympics. The city is experiencing heavy rainfall, leading to the rescheduling of the men's street skateboarding event to Monday due to the inclement weather.

At Roland Garros, the venue for the French Open, most of the outside tennis courts are covered to protect them from the rain. Spectators, who have braved the long queues outside, are now seeking shelter under raincoats and umbrellas.

Fortunately, the two main courts, Court Philippe-Chatrier and Court Suzanne Lenglen, have retractable roofs, allowing some play to continue despite the weather conditions. World No. 1 Iga Swiatek, fresh off her fifth grand slam title win last month, is currently competing on Philippe-Chatrier against Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu. Swiatek has taken an early lead, winning the first set 6-2.

Olympic participation seems to run in Swiatek's family, as her father, Tomasz, represented Poland in rowing at the 1988 Games in Seoul. He finished seventh in the quadruple skulls event. Swiatek expressed her excitement at the prospect of winning an Olympic gold medal, calling it a 'dream come true.' Her chances look promising, especially since the competition is being held on clay, her preferred surface for playing.
