Rain and wind forecasted for showdown between Packers and Lions

The Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions will have to play through precipitation and gusty winds on Sunday at Lambeau Field.

According to The Weather Channel, the forecast for Green Bay calls for steady rain and winds between 15-25 miles per hour throughout Sunday’s NFC North showdown.

Kickoff is at 3:25 p.m. CST. There is projected to be a 100 percent chance of rain each hour between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. And wind figures to be a factor from start to finish.

Not only will the ball be more difficult to handle in wet conditions, but the playing surface at Lambeau Field could be slick and slippery.

Sunday will be the first game outdoors this season for the Lions, who play inside at Ford Field. The Packers played on a slick field in Brazil to start the season and have been home for four games, although weather in Green Bay has been good during the first two months of the season.

It’s possible the conditions could affect the Lions’ high-powered and high-efficiency offense. Also, Lions quarterback Jared Goff has a career passer rating over 100.0 indoors and a passer rating under 90.0 outdoors. His small hands — which measured 9″ and ranks in the 8th percentile for quarterbacks — could make gripping and throwing the ball difficult in adverse conditions.

Football, a game of overcoming adversity and a challenge of physical and mental toughness, is meant to be played outdoors. On Sunday in Green Bay, the Packers and Lions will have to overcome not only a difficult opponent but also difficult playing conditions — providing a true test for both teams.
