Rain and thunderstorms predicted across Merseyside as heatwave comes to an end

Temperatures have been soaring the past couple of days but the heatwave is soon due to end.

The Met Office have said to expect rain and thunderstorms across Merseyside and the rest of the North West as temperatures drop back down. The nation has been experiencing a heatwave with temperatures up to 38C and the forecasters put an Amber weather warning in place for extreme heat in Liverpool.

While this afternoon will see highs of 38C across Merseyside, tonight will be significantly cooler as some areas drop to as low as 15C. The cooler temperatures are expected to continue on Wednesday.

The Met Office said that Merseyside can expect "cloud building from the west later, bringing the chance of a few showers or thunderstorms by the evening" today, on Tuesday. Tonight will see "a bright end to the evening with high temperatures persisting into the first half of the night however, cloud gradually building from the west as fresher conditions arrive."

Tomorrow will be considerably colder than today, with the maximum temperature expected to be 20C - 18C cooler than today. The Met Office said that Wednesday will be "cloudier and much less hot with isolated showers, potentially heavy and thundery at times."

Elsewhere in the country, the forecasters have issued further weather warnings for Wednesday. The South East of the country have yellow thunderstorm warnings in place from 1pm to 9pm tomorrow. It states that there is a risk of flooding and lightning strikes.
