Rail strike June 2022: Buses to get when Metro is off between Pelaw and South Hylton

There will be no Metro trains to Sunderland when railway workers go on strike in June.

While Metro staff themselves are not downing tools, the Tyne-Wear Metro system shares tracks with Network Rail between Pelaw and South Hylton. Network Rail staff who are members of the RMT union are taking part in the strike, so there will not be enough staff to operate signals.

As a consequence, Nexus has decided not to run Metros between Pelaw and South Hylton on Tuesday June 21 and Thursday June 23. The rest of the Metro network is set to operate as normal.

Early morning journeys will also be affected on Wednesday June 22 and Friday June 22.

The stretch of track will also be closed on the third day of the strike, Saturday June 25, and on Sunday June 26 for engineering works. A rail replacement bus service will operate on June 25 and June 26 only.
