We’ve seen this movie before. Several times this season, in fact. The Raiders go up double digits and collapse in the second half.
Thursday night the Rams had two late drives to storm back from down 16-3 to win 17-16. So, you can understand how someone might think that was a defensive problem. But that’s a lazy take.
The Raiders got their lead in part by targeting Davante Adams. As has been the case much of the season. He made two spectacular grabs in the first half — one leading to a touchdown. the other putting them in position for a touchdown.
Then came the second half. And Adams all but disappeared from the offensive game plan.
Adams was out there. He played all but two snaps (98%) in the game. But he saw just one deep target in the second half and Jalen Ramsey slowed him up enough for the pass to sail over his head incomplete. This after Adams had beaten Ramsey for both his big completions in the first half.
Derek Carr only attempted six passes in the second half prior to the desperation interception at the end, completing just two of them for 11 yards. Two completions. For 11 yards. In the entire second half. That’s quite the half time adjustments, I tell ya.
Raiders stopped dancing with the date that brought them. Just inexplicable.
