We are just a few days until the deadline for teams to use their franchise tag. That means the Raiders have until Tuesday to decide what to do with running back Josh Jacobs.
They have decided that they are going to keep Jacobs no matter how it has to happen, so if that means using the franchise tag, that’s what they will do according to NFL media’s Tom Pelissero.
The #Raiders plan to place the franchise tag on star RB Josh Jacobs if the sides don’t reach a deal by Tuesday’s deadline, per sources.

Recently Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels had said GM Dave Ziegler had been working with Jacobs’s agent to try and get a long term deal done. If the two sides can reach an agreement before Tuesday, they can avoid using the franchise tag.
Even if they do tag Jacobs, they could still ultimately work out a long term deal. The tag would just allow them time to do so.
If Jacobs were amenable, playing on the franchise tag could be a fairly good deal for the Raiders. The RB tag numbers are some of the lowest in the league at around $10 for the season and it would allow the team to see if Jacobs can repeat his breakout 2022 season in which he led the league with 1653 yards rushing and over 2000 yards from scrimmage.
