Raiders Sign Veteran QB Brian Hoyer to Two-Year Contract

Veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer signed a two-year deal with the Raiders his agency confirmed Tuesday, paving the way for the longtime Patriots signal-caller to reunite with Josh McDaniels.

Hoyer will make way to Las Vegas and bring an end to his third different stint in New England, the most recent of which spanned from 2020 to ‘22. The NFL journeyman spent the majority of that time as a backup to Cam Newton and Mac Jones, making just two starts and seven appearances across the three seasons.

With the Raiders, Hoyer is once again bound for a role as a backup behind former Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who signed a three-year deal with the AFC West franchise earlier this offseason. Though the two-signal callers both spent time with New England in 2017, they narrowly missed crossing paths with one another as Hoyer signed with the team one day after Garoppolo was traded to the 49ers.

Hoyer, 37, has generated a strong reputation for himself around the NFL as an experienced backup capable of providing leadership and support in a quarterback room. Since going undrafted in 2009, he’s had stops with the Patriots (three times), Cardinals, Browns, Texans, Bears, 49ers and Colts.

In 76 career games played, Hoyer has completed 59.4% of his passes, while amassing 10,668 yards, 53 touchdowns and 35 interceptions.
