Raiders QB Derek Carr’s passing chart from Week 5

After a rough few games to begin the season, Derek Carr played his best game in Week 5. Despite being under pressure all night, he put the team in a position to win the game.

And if Davante Adams just holds onto a pass on the sideline, they probably do escape with a victory. Instead, they dropped to 1-4 and are licking their wounds going into the bye week.

Still, the offense has drastically improved over the last few weeks and it’s clear why that’s happening. One of the reasons why the Raiders were able to have success in Week 5 throwing the ball was due to Carr’s aggressiveness.

Carr threw two touchdowns that traveled 35+ air yards. That is a pretty rare thing in today’s NFL. Take a look at his passing chart from Week 5 via the NFL’s Next Gen Stats:

What doesn’t show up here are the other shots Carr took down the field that resulted in defensive pass interference calls. The Raiders challenged the secondary of the Chiefs down the field and they were rewarded.

That needs to be a theme of their offense moving forward if they want to continue to score 27+ points per game.
