Raiders’ Josh McDaniels Addresses Rumors Jimmy Garoppolo Won’t Be Able to Play in ’23

Raiders coach Josh McDaniels did his best to shut down any worries or concerns Thursday that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo would be unable to play during the 2023 season.

Last week, Garoppolo did not join the Raiders for their offseason training activities. At the same time, McDaniels shared that Las Vegas was taking it slow with Garoppolo after the 31-year-old signal-caller underwent surgery on his left foot directly after signing his three-year contract worth $67.5 million in March, according to The Athletic

With Garoppolo inactive in OTAs and speculation rising that his status for the start of the regular season could be in jeopardy, McDaniels told reporters said he is not concerned about the outlook for his signal-caller.

“I have no anxiety,” McDaniels said in the press conference, per The Las Vegas Review-Journal. “You guys may have anxiety. I have no anxiety. I’m not going to put a timeline or a day on anything.”

Garoppolo injured his left foot during the 49ers’ game against the Dolphins on Dec. 4 and missed the rest of the 2022 season, finishing the year with 2,381 yards, 16 touchdowns and four interceptions. Since Garoppolo was traded to San Francisco from New England in ’17, he has missed 31 regular season games.

Still, Las Vegas anticipates that the 31-year-old will be ready to return by the time the Raiders begin training camp. Even so, McDaniels told reporters that he plans to focus only on the things he can control when it comes to his quarterback

“I don’t worry about the things I can’t control,” McDaniels said. “I have very good information that tells me that we’re going to be fine.”
