Raiders hopeful of minor Hodgson knee woe

Josh Hodgson was injured early in Canberra's round one meeting with Cronulla at GIO Stadium. (AAP)

Canberra remain confident Josh Hodgson has not suffered ligament damage as they wait on the results of scans on the star NRL hooker's knee.

Hodgson left the field after just six minutes of the Raiders' nail-biting 24-19 win over Cronulla on Friday night, prompting fears of a serious injury.

Canberra are not expected to learn the results of scans until Monday but they remained hopeful on Saturday the injury was only one of meniscus damage.

If that is the case, Hodgson would only be expected to miss between two and six weeks.

Hodgson is already signed with Parramatta for next year, which will draw to an end his near decade-long spell in Canberra -- two-and-a-half of those years as captain.

The club are already without halfback Jamal Fogarty for the first four months of the season, with Brad Schneider stepping up to fill in.

The Raiders do have other options at No.9, with Tom Starling starting there 10 times before and expected as the long-term dummy-half once Hodgson links up with the Eels.
