The Las Vegas Raiders have officially entered the AFC West arms race that has been taking place this offseason.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Raiders are signing Chandler Jones to a three-year contract. The contract is expected to be worth about $17 million per year on average. Las Vegas already extended Maxx Crosby this offseason and now they’re set to pair him with Jones, who was one of the NFL’s leaders in pressure rate last season.
Jones was a former first-round draft pick by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft. The 6-6 and 265-pound pass rusher went on to play four years in New England, winning Super Bowl XLIX following the 2014 season. He was traded to the Arizona Cardinals in 2016 and has been there ever since. During the course of his career, the 32-year-old has amassed 107.5 sacks, good for 25th all-time in NFL history.

The rest of the AFC West is loading up on pass rushers this offseason. The Chargers got involved, trading for Chicago Bears DE Khalil Mack. The Broncos added former Dallas Cowboys DE Randy Gregory. The Chiefs still have work to do on their own pass rush, but now that hole at the right tackle position is even more glaring. Look for them to make some decisions to solidify that spot moving forward.
