Raiders DE Tyree Wilson improves in Week 4

The first month of the 2023 season has not been kind to Tyree Wilson. The No. 7 pick has not had a lot of success as he continues to work his way back from an offseason foot injury.

In the first two games of the season, Wilson did not record a single pass-rush win, according to Pro Football Focus. He was the lowest-graded EDGE rusher in the NFL after two games and played only 11 snaps in Week 3 against the Steelers.

However, Wilson had a much better performance in Week 4 against the Chargers. He recorded two hurries (first two of his career) and started to look like the player the Raiders saw at Texas Tech. Here is what Pro Football Focus had to say about the first-round pick of the Raiders in Week 4:

Wilson had his first game with multiple pressures and earned a season-high 67.1 run-defense grade. His biggest blemish was a penalty for illegal hands to the face.

Willson has struggled, but it’s a good sign that he has improved over the past two weeks. He’ll get better as he continues to learn how to use his freakish length to his advantage.

All the Raiders can hope for here is improvement. And that’s exactly what we saw from him on Sunday. If he can continue to get better as the season goes on, maybe the Raiders will have finally found a suitable bookend to Maxx Crosby.
