It was only a matter of time before Maxx Crosby started his own foundation. The fifth year defensive end has been a passionate advocate for two things above all else — substance abuse prevention and animal rescues. And now he’s doing something substantive about it with the Maxx Crosby Foundation.

“My family and I have been blessed with the opportunity and a platform to give back to the communities and causes that are dear to our hearts,” Maxx Crosby said in a statement. “It is my hope that the Maxx Crosby Foundation will make a significant impact and will provide direct help to those in need.”
According to the website, the Foundation will focus on teen substance abuse intervention, youth health and wellness, animal rescue and abuse prevention, and other charitable causes. With current efforts primarily in Southern Nevada, Eastern Michigan, and North Texas.
Crosby struggled with substance abuse from his teen years, all through college, and into the pros. He turned his life around several years ago and hopes to help others do the same.
He also has a passion for dogs. Pitbulls in particular. Of which he has several.
I interviewed Crosby back in 2020 when he had hoped someday to open a pitbull rescue.
“I look at Pit Bulls like I look at myself,” Crosby said at the time.
“Personality-wise, I feel like from the outside a lot of people think I’m angry. Everybody goes ‘Mad Maxx! He’s this big, bad son of a bitch.’ On the field that’s what I am. I play my ass off, I don’t take crap from anybody and that’s how I play,” he said. “But as a person off the field, I’m a big teddy bear, I talk to everybody, I try to be cool with everyone, I try to have great relationships with people. I’m just a soft-spoken good person. That’s who I try to be and that’s how I feel like Pit Bulls are.”
Yes, I know, soft spoken is not a word most would equate to Crosby. Especially in light of the cigar smoking videos he posted following the Raiders win over the Giants two weeks ago. But his ability to turn it off and on when the moment calls for it is one of the rare qualities that makes him great.
And while he may have ultimately realized starting a shelter is a tougher task than he first hoped, he clearly hasn’t given up on his dream entirely. This foundation is an important step to make a difference in promoting animal rescues and preventing abuse. While helping in the areas of teen substance abuse and beyond.
