Raiders DE Clelin Ferrell was a healthy scratch in Week 10

The Las Vegas Raiders released a former first-round pick last week in Johnathan Abram. He was the No. 27 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, but he was having another rough season after the team declined his fifth-year option in the offseason.

Another first-round pick from that year that is currently on the hot seat is none other than Clelin Ferrell, who was selected at No. 4 in that same draft. Like Abram, the Raiders also declined his fifth-year option as his role has shrunk with each season.

With just a few games left until he hits free agency, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Raiders released him soon. He was a healthy scratch on Sunday despite injuries all across the defensive line. Here is what senior writer Paul Gutierrez had to say about Ferrell after Week 10:

“Considering Ferrell was a surprisingly healthy scratch for Sunday’s stunning loss to the Colts, despite being somewhat productive for an unproductive defense, well, that’s not a good omen, right?

Ferrell, the No. 4 overall pick of the 2019 draft, has 10 tackles, a pass defended and 0.5 sacks in eight games with no starts, for an underachieving 2-7 team. Writing on the wall? Stay tuned.”

It’s clear that Ferrell isn’t long for Las Vegas and he certainly isn’t in their long-term plans. At this point, they might as well release him and allow him to catch on elsewhere for the final eight weeks of the season.
