Raiders fans got excited about the potential of rookie DT Nesta Jade Silvera due to some accounts of how he was performing in one-on-ones in training camp. That potential has resulted in just two appearances this season and now the 7th rounder has been waived by the team with three games remaining.
Jade Silvera has not appeared in a game in nearly two months. He had a combined two tackles in his two appearances. Not what many had hoped or expected his rookie totals to be.
Some accounts during training camp were that he was very powerful. I saw evidence of this power as well, but the results were less noteworthy. He could drive back offensive linemen, but there was little in the way of technique or focus. He had me thinking of former Raiders third round pick Eddie Vanderdoes who also lasted just one season with the Raiders and whose NFL career lasted just 19 games with two teams.
It’s certainly possible Jade Silvera could get his career on track and I wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t invited back to the practice squad and/or as a reserve/future signing to give him another offseason to show improvement.
