Raiders CB Jakorian Bennett among the biggest winners from camp

The Las Vegas Raiders have had a competitive training camp, especially since the pads have come on. One of the biggest winners has been rookie CB Jakorian Bennett, who is competing for a starting job despite being a fourth-round pick.

With Nate Hobbs moving back into the slot, Bennett has been one of the team’s starting outside cornerbacks along with Marcus Peters in their nickel defense. And to his credit, he’s held up extremely well.

In a recent article by Vic Tafur of The Athletic, he mentioned how good Bennett has looked at camp so far. Here is a snippet of his thoughts on the rookie defensive back and his role with the defense:

With Brandon Facyson out with an undisclosed injury, Bennett — the team’s fourth-round pick out of Maryland — has made himself at home at one of the team’s two starting cornerback spots. The 5-foot-11 Bennett looks like he knows what he is doing, has good cover skills and has the speed to make up for any mistakes.

Bennett is the favorite to be one of the team’s starting cornerbacks in Week 1, but he still needs a strong preseason to lock down that job. But as of right now, he’s got to be among the biggest winners of camp. It’s not very often a fourth-round pick finds himself in a competition for a starting job in their first camp. But that’s where we are at right now with Bennett.
