Raiders are still interested in free-agent CB Marcus Peters

Right after the NFL Draft ended, the Raiders met with former Pro Bowl cornerback Marcus Peters. After not selecting a cornerback on the first two days of the NFL Draft, it’s clear that the Raiders believe it’s still a need area for them heading into the 2023 season.

However, no deal was signed when the Raiders met with Peters in May and it seemed like a potential pairing was dead in the water. However, don’t rule out the possibility of Peters signing with the Raiders this summer.

In a recent article by Vic Tafur of The Athletic, he believes the Raiders are “likely” to sign Peters at some point this offseason. Here is a snippet of his thoughts on Peters and the likelihood that he will join the Raiders this offseason:

Those guys may be competing for one starting job, as the Raiders seem likely to sign veteran cornerback Marcus Peters before training camp. Peters came in for a visit last month and, according to league and team sources, the two sides have stayed in touch as Peters tests the market.

The Raiders have other veteran cornerbacks on their list, but Peters could very likely sign with the team that he grew up rooting for as a kid in Oakland.

Peters would be a stop-gap option for the Raiders at cornerback, but that’s all they need as they have a ton of youth at the position. Jakorian Bennett and Tyler Hall are both intriguing prospects, but neither is ready for a full-time role right now.

Peters could give them viable cornerback play for a year until one of their young defensive backs is ready to take over that role. At this stage of the offseason, a union between the Raiders and Peters seems like a matter of when not if. Expect a deal to happen over the next few weeks.
