Raiders add elite cornerback prospect in recent CBS Sports mock draft

We are still only in January, but the position that most mock drafters have slotted to the Raiders is cornerback. That’s not all that surprising as just about every team in the NFL could use more help in the secondary.

The most common names that we’ve seen mocked to the Raiders include Kool-Aid McKinstry (Alabama) and Nate Wiggins (Clemson). But this is a deep cornerback class and it wouldn’t be a shock at all to see some risers in the group.

In a recent mock draft by CBS, they had the Raiders taking a cornerback in Round 1. But instead of McKinstry or Wiggins, they had the Raiders selecting Missouri CB Ennis Rakestraw. Here is why they believe he could be a great fit in Las Vegas:

Rakestraw has the alpha mentality needed to not just survive but thrive in today’s NFL as a boundary cornerback. He’s technically sound, too.

Rakestraw might just be the most physical cornerback in this class. No one in the draft is better at stopping the run than him at the cornerback position. The Raiders need more attitude and aggressiveness on defense and that’s why it wouldn’t be a surprise if this is where they went in Round 1.

Keep an eye on Rakestraw through the draft process as he could be an option for the Raiders in the first round.
