If the season ended today, the Raiders would own the No. 11 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. That is probably out of the range of the top three quarterbacks in this class, and it would put them out of the running of the top defensive players, as well.
So instead of reaching for a quarterback or high-level defender, could the Raiders just sit and take the best player available? That’s exactly what they did in Trevor Sikkema’s latest mock draft for Pro Football Focus.
In his mock draft, he has the Raiders picking Washington WR Rome Odunze with the No. 11 pick in the draft. Here is his explanation behind the potential selection:
Are we trying to score points, or are we trying to score points? There aren’t many receivers who move like Rome Odunze at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds. He ranks in the 53rd percentile of open targets created, which is not common for players with his build. He is also in the 96th percentile for contested catches, hauling in more than 70% of such targets this season.
If the Raiders were to make a move like this, it would be under the assumption that Davante Adams would be traded in 2024. Las Vegas signed Jakobi Meyers to a team-friendly deal during the 2023 offseason and selected Tre Turner in the third round this year.
Odunze is one of the best receivers in the nation and is worthy of a top-15 selection. But mocking him to the Raiders considering all of their other needs seem a bit unrealistic.
