AMRITSAR: Ahead of the beginning of Punjab leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi paid a surprise visit to Golden Temple on Tuesday.
Wearing a saffron turban, the bearded Rahul Gandhi who was accompanied by senior Congress leadership from Punjab indicated his 'serious' political engagement in Punjab especially given the timing of his visit to the holy shrine.
Earlier, Rahul had paid obeisance at Golden Temple on January 27,2022, ahead of party’s campaign for the assembly elections in Punjab .
After landing at Amritsar, Rahul went to a private hotel where he reportedly tied the saffron turban before moving towards the Golden Temple.
Rahul Gandhi spent a little over an hour in the Golden Temple. He went inside the sanctum sanctorum of Golden Temple where he listened to kirtan for about ten minutes, took parikrama, and parshad.
Among others who accompanied Rahul included Member Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla, former MLA Sunil Dutti, Punjab Pradesh Congress president Raja Warring, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa etc.
Neither the Congress leader was accompanied by any Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member during his visit to Golden Temple nor did SGPC had provided its task force’s security for the Rahul.
After paying obeisance at Golden Temple, Rahul flew back at around 4 pm.
Reacting to his visit Gurjeet Singh Aujla said Rahul was in the Golden Temple for taking the blessings of Guru like a common devotee. Another Congress leader Sunil Dutti said Rahul’s visit indicates at Congress party’s secular thinking and has infused fresh energy among Congressmen.
