Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi on October 2 paid obeisance at the Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib) in Punjab’s Amritsar.
Mr. Gandhi, who was on a personal visit, paid his respects at the Golden Temple by offering a ‘Rumalla Sahib’ — a sacred cloth used to cover the Guru Granth Sahib. He also performed ‘sewa’ (voluntary service) by cleaning water bowls used by devotees.
Mr. Gandhi reached Amritsar from Shimla, and earlier in the day, offered prayers at the famous Ramlok Temple near Sadhupul in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh. He was accompanied by former Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Ms. Gandhi and Ms. Vadra have been staying at the latter’s house at Chharabra on the outskirts of Shimla for the past few days. Swami Amar Dev, the founder of the famous Ramlok Temple, said the three leaders arrived at the temple early in the morning and offered prayers at the newly built Naglok temple inside the premises of the main temple.
In Punjab, senior Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa said Mr. Gandhi was on a personal spiritual visit and paid obeisance at the Golden Temple. He asserted that the Congress party always wished for a better future for the country, and therefore, apart from making other efforts, it also seeks the kindness of God.
“..The country has been going through a very tumultuous period. The kind of violence that happened in the BJP-ruled state, Manipur has stunned the entire world. Communal clashes also took place in Haryana, another BJP-ruled state,” he posted on X.
