Raheem Sterling straight to work at Arsenal as part of plan to be ready for Tottenham

Raheem Sterling is due to get straight down to work at Arsenal on Monday as he bids to get up to speed in time the north London derby against Tottenham.

Sterling joined Arsenal on loan from Chelsea on deadline day and is keen to maximise the two-week international break he has working with Mikel Arteta.

The 29-year-old has not played any football since pre-season and wants to use the next fortnight to make sure he is ready to face Spurs.

Sterling is also planning to study Arsenal’s patterns of play, although he has experience of Arteta’s methods having worked with him at Manchester City.

After being asked to train away from the first team at Chelsea, Sterling has been working with performance coach Ben Rosenblatt.

Sterling usually trains with Rosenblatt, who was England’s lead physical performance coach before stepping down last year, during the off-season and has helped keep the winger sharp.

But Sterling wants to step up his training now he has joined Arsenal.

Arteta is eager to get him up to speed over the next two weeks.

“We’ll have to see and speak to him on what he’s been doing and how he’s feeling about it,” said Arteta after Arsenal drew 1-1 with Brighton on Saturday.

“We have to try to find quick wins to get him up to speed as quick as possible and him understanding what we are looking for from him and the dynamics of the team.

“We will use this time to do that and as soon as possible, get him involved.”
