Raheem Sterling reportedly set for Manchester City transfer decision amid Arsenal links

As per the Daily Mail, Raheem Sterling is reportedly considering running down his contract at Manchester City to open up his options ahead of potentially leaving the club on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old's deal at the Etihad Stadium expires in 2023, and Sterling is yet to commit his long-term future to the Premier League champions. Arsenal are a side who are believed to be interested.

Sterling became notably frustrated last season as he struggled for minutes in a competitive City side.

Talking to FT Business of Sport US Summit, Sterling said: "If there was the opportunity to go somewhere else for more game time, I would be open to it at this moment in time. As I said, football is the most important thing to me — challenges that I have set myself from a young age and dreams as well.

"As an English player, all I know is the Premier League, and I've always thought, you know, maybe one day I'd love to play abroad to see how I would come up against that challenge."

His words came as a shock to his manager, who admitted that he had no idea that Sterling was unhappy: "I didn't know [he had considered leaving], I think the club didn't know it either," Guardiola said in his pre-match press conference, via the Independent.

"Raheem is our player. Hopefully, he'll be an incredibly important player for us. I don't know if he'll play more."

Whether Sterling decides to move on remains to be seen, but the club that takes him on next are in a fortunate position as they'd be adding a world-class winger to their squad.
