Houston Rockets general manager Rafael Stone, who recently received third-place votes for the NBA’s 2021-22 Executive of the Year, will represent the team at Tuesday’s 2022 NBA draft lottery. The news was first broken by veteran reporter Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston.
The draft lottery will be drawn in Chicago, which is where the 2022 NBA draft combine is taking place this week. Thus, it makes sense for Stone to be the team’s representative, since he’s already there for scouting.
The Rockets are guaranteed a top-five selection, but they have a 52.1% chance (pick odds) of moving into the top four, which is chosen by the lottery. With identical odds in 2021, the Rockets ended up at No. 2 overall in the first round, which they used to pick Jalen Green.
The selections will be announced at 7 p.m. CDT on ESPN, with the order of non-playoff teams unveiled in descending order from No. 14 to No. 1. The order of playoff teams, which includes the pick from Brooklyn (No. 17) headed to Houston, is already finalized based on records.
