RAF jets have been scrambled from a Scots base for the second day in a row.
The Royal Air Force Typhoons were launched from Lossiemouth, Moray, this morning as an aircraft began heading towards the UK 'area of interest'.
They were supported by a Voyager air-to-air refuelling Tanker from RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.
An RAF spokesperson said: “Quick Reaction Alert Typhoon fighters from RAF Lossiemouth, supported by a Voyager Tanker from RAF Brize Norton, have been launched against aircraft approaching the UK area of interest.
"We will not be offering any additional detail on this ongoing operation until complete.”
It came after crews were yesterday dispatched to respond to four Russian strategic bombers approaching the same area.
At the time of the incident yesterday, an RAF spokesperson added: “Quick Reaction Alert Typhoon fighters based at RAF Lossiemouth supported by a Voyager from RAF Brize Norton were scrambled today against unidentified aircraft approaching the UK area of interest.
"Subsequently we intercepted and escorted four Russian Bear aircraft.”
