Radu Dragusin's agent explains why he snubbed Bayern Munich for Tottenham as contract revealed

Radu Dragusin has rejected Bayern Munich's offer of a higher salary to sign for Tottenham, the player's agent has revealed.

Spurs have agreed to pay a £21.5million transfer fee for the Romanian defender with a further £4.3m owed in add-ons and Djed Spence heading to Italian club Genoa on loan as part of the deal.

Speaking ahead of Dragusin's flight to London on Wednesday morning, agent Florin Manea detailed the agonising decision made between Tottenham and Bayern.

"This morning, at 8am, the decision was made," he told Romanian outlet GSP.

"We were determined to go to Tottenham, but the offer came from Bayern and we stopped in our tracks. I was on my way to the airport. I said we have to think carefully and evaluate it.

"Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in the world... I can't believe we turned Bayern down! But that's the decision.

"I took it with Radu and his family. I informed Bayern that this was the decision, that they came in at the end and that it was too difficult to change our minds.

"Maybe in the future we will get there. We are a little overwhelmed. It was ultimately what Radu and his family wanted. He is happy. We're going to Tottenham!"

Bayern are now set to turn their attentions to Spurs defender Eric Dier having bid to hijack Dragusin's switch to north London, which Manea has said came too late in the day.

"Naturally, Radu also thought about Bayern's offer," he continued. "It's hard to make such a decision. Bayern strongly wanted him, but the official offer didn't arrive until last night.

"There was more money from Bayern, but he decided that this is the right step for his career. We stayed up all night to think. I did not sleep at all as we weighed up the pros and cons.

"Both Napoli and AC Milan wanted him , but he has dreamed of playing in the Premier League from a young age."

Dragusin will earn £50,000-a-week at Spurs on a deal that will run to either 2029 or 2030, according to GSP, having been offered a significantly higher package to move to Munich.

But it is the 21-year-old's desire to play in the Premier League which ultimately swung his decision.

"It has to be appreciated that he chose his career before money," said the agent. "I don't know how many would have refused the offer we had from Bayern.

"There were many who didn't think we were denying Bayern but I said this is the right step.

"Tottenham made great efforts, their chairman and sporting director worked until 3am to reach an agreement"

"There was quite a difference. Almost half as much, if not double. But the amounts don't matter. They were never a priority. We will always choose the steps we believe are correct. I think he weighed in that he always wanted to get to the Premier League.

"At one point, Tottenham were a bit far from what Genoa wanted, but I said that if the clubs agree, we will choose Tottenham. If not, it means that God wanted it that way and we will go to Bayern.

"Tottenham made great efforts, their chairman and sporting director were very happy. They both worked very hard, up until 3am to reach an agreement.

"Now they want him for six-and-a-half-years. We have also discussed five-and-a-half years and there are still small details to be worked out - but 99 per cent we are in agreement."
