Radrizzani's foul-mouthed Leeds United takeover message, poignant goodbye and moments you missed

Old friends reunited

As the players came off from their warm-ups at Elland Road before the game had started, Tottenham Hotspur wing-back Pedro Porro waited by the mouth of the tunnel for compatriot Marc Roca. The pair have never played at club level before, but may have crossed paths in the national youth age groups.

There was also some chatter between Dejan Kulusevski and Weston McKennie as they made their way down the tunnel. The pair are each on loan from Juventus at their respective clubs and returned to Turin after full-time.

Fans focus on happier times

While there was a defiant tone around the stadium amid the general resignation to what was coming for Leeds United at full-time, the fans chose to focus on those players from happier times. On the final day of the season two years ago it was Pablo Hernandez and Gaetano Berardi who were bidding farewell to the club.

They each had their songs aired through the first half. There were chants too for Mateusz Klich, Samuel Saiz, Pontus Jansson and Jermaine Beckford.

Jack Gilvarry remembered

In the 20th minute of Sunday’s game, an image of young fan Jack Gilvarry was displayed on the big screen in the southwest corner. Jack, who passed away recently, had FOXG1 syndrome, which is a very rare and life-limiting condition.

Jack visited Thorp Arch with his family in May 2019 to see the players. There was warm applause from all sides of Elland Road to remember one of their fellow fans.

Anger boils over

In the 39th minute, after Pascal Struijk’s latest failed attempt to defend his flank, Max Wober had to come across and mop up the danger being created by Spurs. As the ball was put into touch he turned and gave Struijk both barrels for the lack of physicality and strength in his initial challenge.

Message to Radrizzani is clear

While chairman Andrea Radrizzani chose to stay away from Elland Road, on the day the business he holds a majority shareholding in was relegated, the supporters made it abundantly clear how they felt about his tenure. “Sell the club and ---- off home” was the clear instruction to the absent owner.

Harrison’s pointed applause and farewell lap

As a 26-year-old English winger with 21 goals and 16 assists in the Premier League across the past three seasons, Jack Harrison is likely to be among those with the most suitors this summer. He did not allow the opportunity to say goodbye pass him by yesterday just in case.

While he slowed his walk from the field after a substitution to ensure all four stands saw his applause, there was an attempt to shake as many hands as possible around the perimeter of the pitch long after the full-time whistle.
