Radio legend Alan Robson to host 'audience with' night at Newcastle's Hard Rock Cafe

The man, the myth, the radio legend Alan Robson is going from the studio to one of Newcastle's most famous bars, to host a one-off 'audience with' style night, that will see him recall memorable anecdotes from his long career and bring some of his best shows to life live on stage.

Alan is the legendary broadcaster most famous for his long-running late night talk-in show Night Owls on Metro Radio. The long-running programme, which dominated late night schedules for decades, saw Alan tell his loyal listeners every night to 'get to those phones!' as 'Hi Alan, I'm a first time caller and I'm a bit nervous,' became quite the catch phrase in the North East.

Night Owls, also well known for its Blade Runner super quizzes, is just one of many venture Alan has taken on over his career in broadcasting and tales from his time in the industry will be told live as he takes to the stage at the Hard Rock Cafe by the Quayside on Tuesday, April 25.

During the beginning of his radio career, Alan specialised in rock music shows including Bridges and Hot 'n' Heavy Express, before taking over as the presenter of Night Owls show in 1983. After taking on a variety of changes over almost four decades, the adored night-time segment had its final airing on Metro’s sister station, Greatest Hits Radio, in April 2022.

Ala 's shows have always been spontaneous, unique and laugh-out-loud funny. He will take his audience on a journey through some of his most incredible untold experiences from his half-century reign as one of Britain's most successful radio talk show hosts.

Keeping the show on-theme, Alan will come armed with hilarious anecdotes from behind the scenes at the gigs he hosted for the likes of Queen, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Tina Turner and Bryan Adams. and three will even be a Night Owls Live segment and Bladerunner quiz on stage!

Talking about the Hard Rock event, Alan said: "It will give the audience a chance to have their say again as they did for so many years,” says Alan.

“I’ll also be playing classic clips from across the decades, featuring some of the incredible calls from the public. And you’ll have a chance for your voice to become the next one. "
