A takeaway which was due to become student accommodation will remain after proposals were withdrawn. A proposal to turn Dixy Chicken on Alfreton Road, Radford, into a 25 bedroom student block was withdrawn by the developer on March 15.
The plans comprised a 5 storey tower along with shared reception and laundry spaces, which would have resulted in the takeaway having to vacate the site. The building, on the corner of Forest Road West, used to house the former Forest Inn.
The owner of the restaurant, Mohammed Ishaq, had previously said that the plan if approved would put him "out of business". He also expressed worries about how employees would provide for their families and that he would not be able to find another job.

When he took over the takeaway, in around 2007, Mr Ishaq said he took on a 50-year lease. The landlord of the property had previously told Nottinghamshire Live that the application was to "explore avenues and to be able to see whether there are other options and opportunities to improve the area".
In a planning document, architects Marchini Curran on behalf of applicants Tomlinson and Tomlinson Ltd, said: "The proposed development is considered to provide a sympathetic, sensitive, and sustainable re-use of the site that would make a positive contribution to the character and appearance of the area. Given the above assessment, it is considered that the redevelopment of the site to provide managed student accommodation would assist in the regeneration of the area, add to the mix and variety of uses, and ultimately the vitality and viability of the existing Local Centre would be enhanced."
The application was withdrawn by Nottingham City Council on request of the applicant Tomlinson and Tomlinson Ltd on March 15.
Nottinghamshire Live contacted Dixys Chicken and Cure Restoration and Tomlinsons Holdings for comment.
