GIBSIDE is poised to strike at the fifth attempt in the Westwood Handicap (4.10) at Beverley today.
The Tim Easterby-saddled son of Time Test didn’t shine on his handicap debut when a 33-1 last of nine behind Haunted Dream over this course and distance in the middle of last month.
But there was much more to like about his second, again over Beverley’s 10 furlongs, nine days ago.
Sent off at 8-1, Gibside kicked into a clear lead on the run to the final furlong, only to be overhauled by four-and-a-quarter-length winner Appier.
My selection still managed to finish eight lengths clear of the third horse, however, and is fancied to go one better here off the same British Horseracing Authority handicap mark.
At Newcastle, DRAGONS WILL RISE is taken to extend his purple patch in the Download The At The Races App Handicap (6.30).
The six-year-old has been a real money spinner in the hands of Micky Hammond, with eight successes from his last 13 attempts since breaking the ice over a mile at Gosforth Park in March 2020.
Three of those have come over course and distance, including a length-and-a-quarter call from Pallas Dancer last time out, and Rab Havlin’s partner hasn’t finished yet.
