Fresh from his Royal Ascot Wokingham Stakes triumph with Rohaan on Saturday, trainer David Evans can enjoy a more down-to-earth success with CHARLIE’S YARD (5.55) at Wolverhampton today.
The four-year-old gelding has shown considerable improvement in the Welsh trainer’s hands this season, winning twice from just three runs. He won over two miles on the Kempton Polytrack in early May and followed up with a comfortable success over a mile and three-quarters on the turf at Bath.
My selection finished a respectable third of seven when weakening in the final furlong back over two miles in a handicap at Kempton earlier this month. But the drop back to 1m6f today should make him hard to beat on his Tapeta debut in the At The Races App Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap Chase.
Trainer David O’Meara sends SHAWNEE WARRIOR (1.35) 235 miles to Chepstow from his North Yorkshire yard — and the hint should be taken.
The well-bred Mondialiste gelding finished strongly when third of 11 over seven furlongs at Wetherby on his debut a fortnight ago. He is sure to come on for the run and the step up a mile for today’s Vickers.Bet Restricted Maiden Stakes is another big plus.
