TWILIGHT BAY can bag a first career win at the fifth attempt by beating eight rivals for the Watch Racing Free Online At Coral Handicap (4.25) at Lingfield today.
Dean Ivory’s daughter of Twilight Son didn’t set the world alight in three outings - one at Chelmsford City and two at Kempton Park - in novice and maiden company last back-end, beating a total of five rivals out of 30.
As a result, the British Horseracing Authority assessor gave my selection an opening mark of 56, and she put up a personal best with a 40-1 fourth in a six-furlong handicap at the Sunbury course in mid-January.
Dropping back to five furlongs at Lingfield a week ago, Twilight Bay - partnered for the first time by Cieren Fallon - took another step forward with a third to Jaas Yard.
The winner carries a 6lb penalty here so Twilight Bay, a head and a neck in arrears, has a gilt-edged chance of revenge.
At Newbury, the Lucy Wadham-saddled SOMEKINDOFSTAR makes appeal as he attempts a fourth win over fences in the RacingTV Handicap Chase (4.35).
Jack Quinlan’s mount was below his best with a 26-length third to Douglas Talking at Sandown Park last time out, but is better judged on a victory at Fakenham a month earlier.
