Leading horse racing advisor Andrew Mount contributes to various Racing Post publications including the Weekender and Racing & Football Outlook, plus the GG.co.uk website. Unearthing handy systems and statistics, he shares his latest thoughts with SportsCasting readers below.

Andrew gives you the low-down on the stats that matter across three races at Newbury and Leopardstown on Saturday, December 28th…

NEWBURY 12.05

PANIC ATTACK (System – mares only races)

PANIC ATTACK, formerly with David Pipe, was very weak in the betting ahead of her debut for Dan Skelton at Ludlow earlier this month on what was her first start for 649 days. The eight-year-old performed with great credit at the Shropshire venue, keeping on well into a 14-1 third of nine (just two and a half lengths behind the winner) in a Class 2 mares’ handicap hurdle. That encouraging effort took her record against her own sex to 12118321133 (5-11), with the sole unplaced run excusable as she had wind issues.

NEWBURY 1.12

FRERO BANBOU (System – Venetia Williams, December handicappers, recent run)

Venetia Williams-trained handicappers (hurdlers and chasers) have a good record in the month of December when race fit (after a break of 28 days or less), landing 75 of their 313 starts this century (24% strike-rate) for a profit of £81.53 to a £1 level stake (expected winners = 56.41, A/E = 1.33, prior to Friday’s racing). THE FAMOUS FIVE made an encouraging chase debut when a three-length third in what looked a hot race at Windsor and can go two places better.

LEOPARDSTOWN 2.00

HOME BY THE LEE (System – Fame And Glory, jumps, 9yo+)

Progeny of the sire Fame And Glory tend to improve with time and backing the jumpers aged nine or older would have found 27 winners from 246 bets (11%) and made a profit of £66.58 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 17.28, A/E = 1.56). HOME BY THE LEE, who won this Grade 1 contest by three lengths in 2022, bounced back to winning ways at Navan last time and can follow up.
