Rachel Reeves accepts free corporate tickets for Sabrina Carpenter gig

RACHEL Reeves accepted free tickets to sit in a corporate box at a Sabrina Carpenter gig, it has emerged.

The Chancellor attended the singer-songwriter's concert at the O2 arena last weekend which could cause a row over MPs taking up freebies to resurface.

Reeves attended the sold-out gig last weekend as Work and Pensions Committee chair Debbie Abrahams was conducting a ring-round of Labour MPs to drum up opposition to £6 billion of planned Government cuts to benefits.

The revelations have emerged in The i Paper, though there is no suggestion Reeves has broken any rules.

She is expected to declare the gift in the next declaration of MPs’ financial interests.

Last year seven cabinet ministers, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer, received tickets to attend Taylor Swift's tour. In total 14 Labour MPs got free tickets, many of them with pricey hospitality packages attached, at a total cost of £23,328.

It is understood that Reeves received security advice that she could not attend in the general admission areas of the show. Starmer has similarly been sitting in a box at Arsenal since becoming Prime Minister, although he already paid for a season ticket.

But the Chancellor’s attendance at the Carpenter concert using free tickets has drawn criticism from Labour welfare rebels.

Labour MP Rachael Maskell, a leading figure in the revolt against benefit cuts, said: “I thought that this issue had been settled, and ministers would not be accepting free hospitality for personal benefit.

"So to hear of a repeat, should it have occurred, is deeply troubling, not least at a time when many disabled people are worried sick about having their lifeline of support reduced under the ‘Get Britain Working’ reforms.”

A Treasury spokesperson said: “All declarations will be made in the usual way.”
