A racehorse with an X-rated name has triumphed despite an odds rating of 150-1. The horse, with the bizarre name of Sh**a Bed, took part in a race in Tokyo, Japan and the three-year-old was introduced at a three-figure price. But Jockey Shouhei Takahashi defied the odds and won by half a length in what was an unlikely victory.
Nearly two years after his last triumph, the thoroughbred claimed another victory after two third-place finishes and a runner-up during that period. The victory means the horse has managed to wipe the slate clean and there could well be more victories in the future.
Understandably plenty of punters picked up on the naughty name after it won at incredible odds. "Nearly as good as the greyhound called Puma Pants," one said.
Another added: "There was a horse called Shatin Secret, used to run in Dubai." The names of horses always peaks the interest of avid fans, such as the name Sumomomomomomomomo. Last year, for the first time, the three-year-old filly at the time, won a race in Japan.
Earlier this year, Tokyo witnessed another unique horse, but this time due to its appearance. Fans went wild as rare 'unicorn' horse Sodashi stormed to victory in a £1.7 million race back in May. The white filly thrilled racegoers at Tokyo with her late burst in the Victoria Mile.
Naosuke Sugai's star had several lengths to make up on the leader on the run to the line. Jockey Hayato Yoshida galvanised his mount for a final effort and she powered clear for an impressive success.
“It was like a dream for a white horse to be able to win a Grade 1 race at Tokyo racecourse,” said Yoshida. In footage of the performance, huge cheers rained down from the crowd as the 'white wonder' stretches ahead of her 17 rivals. The win earned her a place in the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Keeneland which took place earlier this month.
Kate Hunter, who was at Tokyo races, posted a clip on social media of racing enthusiasts celebrating Sodashi's excellent performance.
She tweeted: "The roar of the crowd rose 100 fold when Sodashi launched into her stretch drive. Very much a fan favourite."
The horse, is expected to feature at this Sunday's Grade 1 event, the Mile Championship, a race it has won the event three times in the past. No double-digit picks have finished in the Top 3 over the last decade and the favourite has won for the last two years.
