Fox Motorsport is planning a return to British GT in 2025 yet is struggling to find a co-driver for its star youngster Mckenzie Douglass, who dominated Ginetta GT last season.
The 17-year-old claimed 12 wins from 21 races clinching the crown at the penultimate weekend and has been rewarded with a G56 GT4 to contest his rookie British GT campaign.
Fox Motorsport is a previous series regular winning races in both classes - its last being a GT3 victory at Spa-Francorchamps in 2022 - but has not appeared in British GT since the 2023 Donington Park finale with a Lamborghini Huracan GT3.
Team boss Paul McNeilly said: “We’re pushing so hard to return to British GT and with one of the most exciting young GT racing talents in the UK right now in Mckenzie Douglass.
“We’ve spoken to several potential co-drivers for Mckenzie, but not found the right fit yet. We’re determined to get it right because this can be a title-winning programme in either GT4 Pro-Am or Silver.
“Mckenzie was in the form of his life in 2024 and as he continues to mature, he’s only going to get better.”
Douglass joined the Essex-based squad in 2023 and has grown into a real team leader despite his tender age, such youthfulness that he thinks will play to his advantage in British GT.
So when asked if he also believes Fox Motorsport can clinch the 2025 title, the Welshman replied: “Of course. Fox has run in British GT with success, so I have a lot of confidence in the lads.
“They’re a great group of people so I definitely know we have the right package to be at the front. We've had one day in the GT4 already and straight away we were on the pace and I felt right at home in the car. So I’ve definitely carried a lot of confidence from last year.”
But Douglass is wary the team cannot begin full preparations for the season until it finds a suitable co-driver, having already looked at a few options that ultimately were not the right fit.
“It's always about having a good relationship with the driver,” he added. “If you don't like them, you're never going to get on, you're never going to have the results.
“So, you've just got to look for a confident driver, they don't have to be the fastest in the world, but as long as they can work well with the team and perform consistently, I know it'll be a good package.
“The whole package is together, we're just missing that one final piece.”
British GT gets underway for 2025 on the 5-6 April at Donington Park with the Leicestershire-based circuit also hosting the season finale on the 4-5 October.
