Joshua Fernandes takes the plaudits as the first-ever leader of the Motorsport: Race our Writers league after a fine opening weekend of the F1 Fantasy competition.
Having deployed the ‘Extra DRS’ chip on race winner Lando Norris, Fernandes bagged 3x points for the man who took the chequered flag at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
Teaming Norris up with McLaren as one of the two constructors was the main tactic that saw Fernandes amass an unrivalled 326 points for the weekend.
Having also put plenty of faith in the underperforming Haas squad, Fernandes took just a combined 24 points from Oliver Bearman, Esteban Ocon and the team itself.
The top score of the round for ‘HigH.PerformancE.AthletE8’ was supplemented by strong showings for Alex Albon (34) and Nico Hulkenberg (20), who both finished above the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton to weigh in with good scores.
Amelia Worrall’s ‘Good I hope 2025’ squad sits just 13 points off the lead, with the same quintet of drivers selected and the ‘Extra DRS’ chip placed on Norris – but with Albon given the regular 2x DRS boost.

Norris’ victory in a wet/dry race in Melbourne meant anyone picking the McLaren man in their team was going to benefit, especially with those ‘Extra DRS’ points on offer, and Lina Barbisch used the same strategy to round out the Race our Writers podium from round one with an impressive 310 points.
Things were not as ‘simply lovely’ for our pool of writers taking part in this season’s fantasy game.
Ruben Zimmermann, editor of Motorsport.com Germany, set the pace with 158 points, a score built mainly on his selection of McLaren (71) and Mercedes (67) as his team pairing.
F1 writer Jake Boxall-Legge may have spent too long writing the latest issue of his weekly Tech Tuesday newsletter and not enough time poring over his F1 Fantasy team as he scored a stunningly bad -47 points, with Gabriel Bortoleto, Isack Hadjar, Jack Doohan and Racing Bulls all returning negative scores for his ‘The Blurt of Teams’ outfit.
Check back on Motorsport.com later in the week for our F1 Fantasy preview ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix.
