Race Across The World winners reveal each other's most annoying habits as they're reunited on BBC Breakfast

The winners of BBC One's Race Across The World were reunited on BBC Breakfast, revealing each other's most annoying habits. Appearing on the programme on Thursday morning, Welsh contestant Cathie Rowe and her best friend Tricia Sail were reunited after having not seen each other for a month.

The pair were crowned winners of the show in the final episode on Wednesday, May 10, claiming the £20,000 cash prize. Competing against other pairs, Cathie and Tricia covered thousands of miles across Canada in a bid to bag the cash prize and become the first pair to reach the final checkpoint.

Cathie, a pharmacist from Bridgend, joined the show from a hotel room in Bangkok while Tricia joined presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt on the sofa. Tricia, who has an eye condition, started to lose her sight around 10 years ago, she told the presenters, adding that it had deteriorated rapidly. She said she had about 3-5% in her right eye and about 8-9% in her left eye.

“Doing this journey with Cathie was just incredible because when we grow old disgracefully, she’s going to be able to say to me, ‘Do you remember the Rocky Mountains, it looks a bit like that,’” she said. Cathie explained she had a “running commentary” with Tricia in order to guide her, pointing out tree roots and paving slabs.

“I now find myself doing it to everybody else,” she said. “I do it to my husband all the time. I just tend to do that naturally now when Tricia and I are together.” Cathie said the pair have a huge amount of laughter together and that other people tell them that they have a special and unique friendship. “We can be completely ourselves with each other without worrying about what the other one thinks. [Tricia] is definitely the bad influence though,” she joked.

When asked by Charlie what Tricia’s most annoying habit was, Cathie said: “She’d just jump in straightaway with something - it could be anything. She would just jump in there straightaway without thinking about it. Sometimes I’d be like, ‘Oh OK, you do it then,’” she said.

At the other end of the spectrum, Tricia said that Cathie’s most annoying habit was that she had to think about things for a long time before she does anything - with Naga saying the pair were the “ying and yang” to each other. Despite this, the pair's strong friendship saw them win the nation's hearts and go on to beat the other competitors.
