An animal cruelty investigation has been launched by police over reports that a wild rabbit was ‘smashed’ to death with a cinder block.
The alarming incident allegedly took place on Garthee Road in Aberdeen on Tuesday evening.
Local reports claim a group of young children had been seen ‘acting suspiciously’ in the area near an upturned shopping basket.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the youths ’deliberately’ kill the animal with a brick after managing to trap it in the carrier.
Police Scotland have confirmed they are investigating.
A force spokesperson said: “Officers in Aberdeen received a report of animal cruelty on Tuesday, 24 May, following the death of a rabbit on Garthdee Road.
“Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call 101, or information can be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously."
